Communication: writing
Benchmark 1.) Writing a report by organizing important information and expressing different points of view: I wrote a report for an advisory about three puppies found in the rubble of a hotel that had been destroyed by an avalanche and how it gave hope to firemen that they'd find other survivors.
Benchmark 3.) Filling out forms; writing orders: For this benchmark we filled out W4's in advisory last year to help give us an understanding on how to fill them out when we had to.
Communication: Speaking and Listening
Benchmark 7.) Giving and taking instructions: For my algebra one class i had to choose a focus question then write it out and explain it to my teacher.
Benchmark 8.) Presenting a report and answering questions: This was another focus question from algebra one but i had to use graphs and show how i got my answers.
Communication: Reading
Benchmark 9.) Reading simple and complex instructions such as manuals: This was the petri dish activity where we swabbed something in the school and rubbed the cotton swab inside the dish, closed it then watched the bacteria grow, its gross but pretty cool.
Benchmark 11.) Combining and using a variety of information sources: manuals, maps, charts, graphs: In my applied business math class i had to use charts to organize and show my work.
Mathematics
Benchmark 12.) Performing basic calculations: For this I used basic calculation in geometry for a project on dividing up a city amungst three pizza places and telling how many blocks they had seperatly.
Benchmark 13.) Calculating fractions, percentages, and decimals: For an advisory we used probability when rolling a six sided die we had to write out the answers in fraction form.
Benchmark 14.) Reading charts and diagrams: In algebra two i had to read charts, graphs and diagrams then pick the answer i thought was correct on our multiple choice test.
Benchmark 15.) Using U.S. and metric measures: In geometry I had a project with popcorn where we had to make two different cylinders out of the same size piece of paper put one inside the other and see how much of the second cylinder the popcorn filled.
Benchmark 18.) Applying basic probability and statistics: Same as benchmark 13, using probability to figure out answers.
Benchmark 19.) Estimating results in problems requiring math: In my applied business math class using math to find the answers to story problems.
Science and Technology
Benchmark 21.) Using scientific process, hypothesis testing, data collecting, and analysis to solve problems: For a science advisory we did a map reading activity and we had to label and color the map and find the measurements.
Benchmark 22.) Following safety procedures: Same as benchmark 9 for science advisory we did a petri dish assignment and we had to follow the directions (safety precautions).
Benchmark 23.) Using computers as tools to complete tasks: For a final report for science we had to use online resources to write a two page report.
Benchmark 25.) Choosing appropriate tools to complete tasks: For algebra i had to use graphs, charts, ruler, and colored pencils.
